"For as the swift monster drags you deeper and deeper into the frantic shoal, you bid adieu to circumspect life and only exist in a delirious throb."

Study: Whaling can be chaotic. Melville teaches us this. When the chase for the whale begins, people often lose their bearings. In times of turmoil, people can provoke bad behavior in one another simply by agitating the "delirious throb" inherent in chaos. A good leader, like a good Captain, helps navigate ships, and people, through turbulent waters. Bad leaders instigate.

I long for calmer seas ahead.
